A report and program funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation entitled "Symbol Usage In Health Care Settings for People with Limited English Proficiency" which examined the background of symbol graphics and their use, or non-use, in health care facilities. The report lead to guidelines and recommendations to design, test and implement a standard set for all medical uses. The development of the first thirty standards is currently being managed by JRC Design in conjunction with SEGD and is expected to be completed within the next two years.
